In regards to staffing, because of my work ethic and the fact that I didn't want to waste time, I asked Ryan to drum for me as I know he is reliable and useful and would easily be able to do 5/6 tracks in one day. I knew that I would require both the live and control room, as well as microphones, other equipment and staff.

At the time of this I intended on recording 5/6 tracks for a spin-off EP so I originally budgeted for one full day recording drums for 5/6 songs and one full day recording vocals - even with this it left me short by a considerable amount, that of which would suffice If I did need to go back into the studio at any point. To keep the recording costs down, I estimated the costs in my financial planner, prior to the task at hand by working out how long, what equipment I would need, who I would require as staff and other attributes that related to the cost. With having a £2000 budget, I thought hard before making commitments to sessions. *From previous knowledge and experience, I planned the recording costs around my ability to do certain things at home. I booked sessions in advance and allowed myself enough time to consider booking other sessions if needed. I planned the recording sessions to what I needed to do in the studio, this being Drums and Vocals, everything else could be done at home. My actual recording costs were under, however, again this is because with me having the equipment to do what I needed mostly at home was not an issue.

Due to me having my own equipment and software to mix and record, I did have an advantage, however I made sure I used this and didn't take it for granted - I had everything mixed and recorded with plenty of time available for any changes.ĭid you stick to your planned recording costs? We're they Over/Under? I met the deadlines with plenty of time and was very happy with how everything came together. We had meetings to sort out what was happening with everything and we stuck to making group decisions and delegating people to do things when possible. We also worked well in regards to organizing the EP name and subject, artwork etc. For example, In Joe Powell's song, he collaborated with Josh Barnett, and with us understanding each other in regards to musical tastes and such, we helped each other through the creation process and recording. With us being friends as well as just classmates it helped us during the creation of the songs. How did your group work as part of a team?Īs a team I think the group worked well.

Overall I would say I was a good asset to the group because whenever help was needed I was willing and I have adequate knowledge to help whatever the situation. The same applied with Josh and James' session, I was recording drums but being a studio assistant at the same time, so I took responsibility for the microphones on the drums and other. In any session where I was present, if I was recording or helping I made sure I got involved which is something I tend to do naturally because I enjoy it, for example: In Sameed's session, I was recording guitar and assisting as well so I took responsible for my own part by setting up my laptop with amp software, setting up the amp with SM57 then making sure we double tracked etc. I offered my contribution to Sameed's song and Joe Powell's as well as helping everyone with what they needed when recording. In the studio I would say I have been quite versatile both musically and in terms of helping the recording process. How well did you contribute to the overall creation of the EP in terms of working in the studio in a variety of roles? With the gig over and the EP done and dusted, I have evaluated the process of both the creation and the launch:
